HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

Family Health Log. Looking Back to Look Forward.
My father always told me you have to look backward, to see where you came from, before you can be ready to look forward and know where to go. This became clear to me in an entirely new way when … Continue reading

Essay. Our own universe
On good weekends, my husband will smile at me and look at Joseph and whoever is Joseph’s caregiver that day, and say “We put the FUN in dysfunctional.” On the days when you cannot smile without it feeling truly fake, … Continue reading

My son Joseph is 18 years old. He loves books. He lives in a universe where chores need to be done and school attended, but where, at any moment, he is the best friend of one of his cast of … Continue reading

I wrote this essay in Fall 2010, shortly after the anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks in the United States. This morning, I felt compelled to go back to these words, to reflect with the experiences and insights of … Continue reading

Essay. The World in a Single Flower.
It has been rainy and cool here for the last two days, so different from the period when two of three weeks had temperatures not far below body temperature, compounded by high humidity. The pain in my right hip and … Continue reading
