HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

Mind: Talking about suicide so we decrease the number of people who die by suicide.
Suicide is not reversible. Stop before you do it….. I wanted to post on mental health in May but did not because I wanted current statistics: When I last researched mental health five or six years ago, the World Health … Continue reading
Essay. The Storm.
Twenty years ago, there was a blizzard on April first, with snow that came over my knees. This year, on the anniversary, there was a smaller storm. My life is captured in the brackets. Then, we thought we knew what … Continue reading
Essay. My Life in Pets III. An Afternoon through Teddy’s Eyes.
Spring colors are here, the yellow of daffodils, cream and pink blossoms on shrubs and trees, a thousand shades of green. One year April brought a blizzard, and over two feet of powdery white stuff covered the yard and buried … Continue reading

Essay. Rings and Ripples.
This story begins with three rings. When I was a child, my father lost his wedding ring. He looked in the car, in grocery bags, along the walk from garage to door. We looked in the house. We looked until … Continue reading
Essay. The Fire that Tempers.
At one moment on a Saturday, I was hosting an e-mail friend from Sweden who was attending a course in our area and wanted to see the region. We drove up the coast and then came back to our house, … Continue reading
Essay. An Afternoon Through Teddy’s Eyes.
This is the anniversary of a freak Spring blizzard, when over two feet of lovely white stuff suddenly covered the yard and buried shrubs. It started as a gift day, a Monday where no one went to work. I enjoyed … Continue reading
Essay. Shadowland
Everyone has days that are remembered in light, either the bright light of a warm outdoor day or the soft light of an emotionally warm moment or an evening to remember. Everyone has days that are remembered as dark, sometimes … Continue reading

I wrote this last year, but we continue to have meetings of wonderful individuals entering our lives and we will face partings. I thought of this reflection on love and loss last week when 26 people were killed simply because … Continue reading
