HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

Essay. The Power of Memory.
Despite hundreds of hours as a teenage hospital volunteer, four years of medical school and six months of a residency in medicine before a head injury ended my medical career, I did not understand what it is like to live … Continue reading
Essay. Beauty and the Beast.
People talk about Christmas in July, finding the beautiful in the ugly, seeing joy in sorrow. I learn about life from children’s films. In our little world, the re-release of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast as a 3-D version was … Continue reading

Essay. The Roads We Take.
With graduation season behind us, it seems time again to ponder the best wisdom we give others or our elders gave us. I recited a poem at a program held before our high school graduation, “The Road Not Taken” by … Continue reading

Essay. The Rocky Hill.
Gettysburg reaped its harvest of death in 1863. Its lessons echo. People will die in war today, fighters and civilians. As at Gettysburg, too many battles will involve people who speak the same language, share the same religion, come from … Continue reading

Essay. What Happens Next.
Once I was a promising young doctor, then a patient with a head injury, then a mother to a beautiful child with autism and bipolar disorder… and through all of it, a person. I’ve spent decades trying to help people … Continue reading
