HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

Spirit/Essay. For Whom the Bell Tolls.
U.S. Senator John McCain will be buried today, one of many people throughout the world: some famous, many little known, too many unknown except to families or to God. Some people will have no one to bury them. When I … Continue reading

Mind/Spirit. Learning from Living. What is Wellness?
Once I was asked to define wellness and realized it was not only more than physical health, it might be beyond health, at least at some times or for some people. I struggled until I found words that fit— Body, … Continue reading

Spirit/Essay. Of mirrors and marathons. Reflections five years after Hell came home.
It is April in New England, and the marathon has come again. Since 2013, race day is not a simple joy anymore. It is the anniversary of a bombing. It is the day we learned how strong we really were, … Continue reading

Spirit/Essay. Janus: Looking Back to Face Forward.
Before photography, we chose what to remember in portraits, memorials, statues. History is selective, but we can always look with a broader view. Two women have statues at our state house, Anne Hutchinson and Mary Dyer. The statues do not … Continue reading
Essay. The Road Home.
After a long, hot, drought-stricken summer, autumn is here. The dogs chased balls today without starting to pant. One day this week I wore jeans comfortably rather than shorts. In an earlier time, before we had dogs and a child, … Continue reading

Essay and Website News. Stone Soup.
Sometimes you find wisdom in the least obvious places. Mine is from a tale for children. Three soldiers walked into a village. A cat peeked through a gap in a wall. There was a quick glimpse of a human head. … Continue reading

Essay. My Life in Pets III. An Afternoon through Teddy’s Eyes.
Spring colors are here, the yellow of daffodils, cream and pink blossoms on shrubs and trees, a thousand shades of green. One year April brought a blizzard, and over two feet of powdery white stuff covered the yard and buried … Continue reading

Essay. The Wisdom of Queen Anne’s Lace.
A world of wisdom in a flower. My life in the reflection of Queen Anne’s lace. I have always loved quiet walks near our home, rural lanes with wildflowers and shrubs when snow doesn’t cover the ground. I like to … Continue reading

Essay. Same Park. Different Dog.
I drove to a nearby park and opened the back of the van. I watched my dog smelling the former country estate and current children’s farm, his nostrils flaring impossibly wide. He sat in his crate, stamping his feet with … Continue reading

Essay. Reel to Real.
Because my almost 21-year-old son has autism, I have a massive mental database on children’s movies. It almost matches his. I was stunned when I first saw the film described as a quirky fairy tale, “Shrek.” The heroine, Princess Fiona, … Continue reading
