HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

Essay. A Single Thread in a Tapestry…
A single thread in a tapestry, though its color brightly shines, can never see its purpose in the pattern of the grand design. And the stone that sits at the very top of the mountain’s mighty face, does it think … Continue reading

Essay. Strength and Honor.
Long ago in biology class, I learned about the “fight or flight reflex,” the surge of hormones into the blood after a sudden fright or potential threat that gives a person the strength to run away or to stand and … Continue reading
News. So what is this blog, anyway?
The Healing Woman web site (www.healingwoman.net) is the centerpiece of my efforts to help people find the balance of physical, mental and spiritual health that allows us to feel whole despite changing times and circumstances. It is like an online … Continue reading

Essay. The oval peg and the circular hole
In the same way that most of us find our earliest identity in our family, our parent or parents, brothers, sisters, grandparents… there are some groups that commonly claim a part in our identity as we get older. These include … Continue reading

Family health log: Living with autism II.
We didn’t have any obvious signs that Joseph was anything other than a typical newborn. In hindsight, the period when he was comforted by being tightly bundled lasted longer than other parents were reporting, and not only the crib, but … Continue reading

Family health log: Living with autism.
Friday was a good example of how life gets in the way of personal healing and you need to handle both. I woke feeling well, so I took my first brisk walk (a pace that felt comfortable but a bit … Continue reading

Health Article. Understanding Autism.
This article is a follow-up to my thoughts on International Autism Day, so you may want to read that post first. Many of the doctors who have seen Joseph over the years have found it surprising that he had such … Continue reading

Part I. International Autism Day.
As I walked through the family room, a TV announcer said today is International Autism Day. This leaves only a so-so mark on me because every day is autism day for us. Our first and only child was born apparently … Continue reading
