HW News
It is 2017, and HealingWoman, begun in 2010, has grown. This year I will update the website to reflect the real-world activities I do, as well as make the blog library easier to navigate, making clear what is literary essay, what relates to health advocacy and medical articles for consumers, and what represents news or real-world activity.
I also invite others who would like to be heard to submit pieces as a guest author. There is no charge and copyright remains yours.
Can I help you? Let me know.

A world of wisdom in a flower. My life in the reflection of Queen Anne’s lace. I have always loved quiet walks near our home, rural lanes with wildflowers and shrubs when snow doesn’t cover the ground. I like to … Continue reading

Essay. Childhood Embarrassment, Life-long Lesson.
When I was very little, my mother had a secret life. She wasn’t home when I got up Saturday mornings, although she was always home with lunch on the table by noon. When I was seven or eight, she began … Continue reading

The last holiday trip my husband and I took together was in 1993. In 1994 I was pregnant with Joseph, in 1995 he was born, and by 1996 we realized he had problems that needed medical help .. a lot … Continue reading
Essay. Same Park. Different Dog.
I drove to a nearby park and opened the back of the van. I watched my dog smelling the former country estate and current children’s farm, his nostrils flaring impossibly wide. He sat in his crate, stamping his feet with … Continue reading

Essay. Rainbows.
Many of us remember our first death. For me, it was my mother’s aunt, a wonderful part of my early childhood. She made flotillas of paper boats to sail in her big, claw-footed bathtub, showed me how to garden, bought … Continue reading
Essay. Peace.
It is a beautiful autumn day, with just the right balance of light breeze and warm, afternoon sun. My two dogs chased balls and followed me while I picked up their poops. We were content. Writing this after we have … Continue reading

Essay. The Roads We Take.
I recited a poem at a program the week before our high school graduation, “The Road Not Taken” by Robert Frost, not because any of us were examining our choices, but because I thought everyone who lived long enough would … Continue reading
